Meet your Tribal Chairperson representative, Candace Schmidt.



Candace is the Chair for the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. She previously served as a District 4 Council Representative and the Tribal Council Secretary. Candace is a mother of 4 and resides in Norfolk, NE with her husband. Candace has served as an Economic and Community Development professional for over 13 years. Her expertise includes business recruitment, retention, expansion, communications, and marketing. She has experience in workforce development and several federal/state/local programs. She recently served as a board member for the Nebraska Economic Developers Association. Candace has extensive knowledge in grant proposals and is a certified grant writer. Candace has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and graduated from the Oklahoma Economic Development Institute. She has worked with governmental agencies at all levels.

Candace has been active in the Tribe throughout her lifetime; including in the areas of Social Services, Health, and Housing. She has also served on the following boards and committees: Intertribal Youth Council, Gaming Enterprise Board, Law and Order Code Committee, Education & Educational Trust Committee, Tax Commission, Judicial Nominating Committee, Restoration Anniversary Committee, and OSNI.
